Dr Parashar Ramanuj is the Clinical Lead for Psychiatry at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and an Outreach Psychiatrist for the London Spinal Cord Injury Network.
He is a specialist in liaison psychiatry, a field that addresses the complex relationship between mental and physical health and is accredited by the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Psychiatrists. As a certified Civil Expert Witness (Cardiff University, 2021), he provides expert opinions in major medico-legal cases for both Claimants and Defendants.
Previously, Dr Ramanuj served as Clinical Director of the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre (2019–2022) and was a member of the NHS England Operational Delivery Network, contributing to national spinal cord rehabilitation standards.
His expertise has shaped national guidelines for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), including those on the safe prescribing of dependence-forming pain medications and the rehabilitation of individuals with chronic neurological conditions such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and functional neurological disorder.
Dr Ramanuj studied medicine and surgery at King’s College London, where he earned a First-class Honours BSc in neuroscience (2003). He has held a Fellowship at Columbia University in New York and has presented internationally, including to the World Health Organization, on the intersection of mental and physical health.
In 2023, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in recognition of his work supporting individuals with complex musculoskeletal conditions.
