Dr Don Chamith Halahakoon is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist working in the NHS, with experience across both inpatient and community settings.
He currently works within a community mental health team, treating a wide range of conditions including mood and anxiety disorders (including PTSD), psychotic disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, personality disorders, and co-occurring substance misuse. His previous roles include work within the Oxfordshire ADHD service and the Oxford University treatment-resistant depression clinic.
Dr Halahakoon has experience preparing expert reports and giving evidence at mental health tribunals. He has also provided expert witness reports in cases involving a range of alleged offences, including violent offences, and has worked in forensic settings such as prisons and medium secure mental health units, including with patients subject to Ministry of Justice restrictions.
He is registered with the General Medical Council as a specialist in General Adult Psychiatry and is approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act, and is a recognised Approved Clinician. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and holds a DPhil (PhD) in Psychiatry from the University of Oxford. He has held academic positions at both the University of Oxford and University College London and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, including work on major depression.
Dr Halahakoon provides medico-legal reports in personal injury, mental capacity, and the review of mental health care, and maintains up-to-date medico-legal training.
